12 Months Before:  Start Dreaming

This is where the fun begins! You’ve got a full year ahead to dream up the wedding you’ve always imagined. So let’s get into it

Set your budget

This will be the most important step in planning your wedding. Always start with the budget, this will determine what you choose for the rest of your wedding. If you need some help working out your budget, check out this article by Money Helper

Create your guest list

Curating a guest list for a small, intimate wedding can be tough. You and your partner will need to make some difficult decisions about who to include. If you’re struggling to create your guest lists, here’s some things to think about

  1. Organize your guest list into categories based on how close you are to them. For example, start with a list of must-haves, like immediate family and closest friends.
  2. If you’re struggling to cut numbers, making your wedding adults only can help reduce the head count
  3. Remember you are not obligated to invite anyone to your wedding. It’s your choice
  4. Most of the people in your life will want the best for you whether this means they’re invited to the wedding or not

Choose a date

Pick a season or date that’s meaningful to you. However try to open about the date, you’ll have a lot more venue options if you can be flexible on the date. Plus certain times of the year are more or less expensive so you may want to keep this in mind when choosing a date.

Start venue hunting

Look for venues that offer a cozy, personal atmosphere rather than large, expansive spaces. You want your micro wedding to have a cozy, intimate feel.

Also the great thing about a micro wedding is you can think outside the box with places like private gardens, boutique hotels, or intimate restaurants for a memorable setting.

Great types of venues of micro weddings include : Restaurants, backyard, Airbnb, Beach Club, Boutique hotels or Vineyards.

Book your vendors

Start searching for your vendors. Try and opt for vendors who specialise in micro weddings, like micro wedding photographers and videographers, as they will have the best experience.

Another great perk with micro weddings is you have a much bigger scope for vendor options. For example, if you’re having a small wedding you could get your favourite restaurant or takeout to provide your wedding dinner. You don’t have to go with traditional wedding dishes!

Plus with fewer guests, you can splurge a little more here!

9 Months Before: Lock It Down

Okay its nine months to go, now its the time to secure the essentials.

Send save-the-dates

Let your small guest list know early. The more notice you give your guests the better! It means they can secure the day far in advance and plan for any travel arrangements or expenses they may incur. If you’re looking for some super cute save the date designs, you can find a host of stunning save-the-dates on Etsy.

Choose your wedding style

Now this is the fun part! Decide your vibe and style.

Whether you’re drawn to Classic Elegance with its timeless and refined touches, the Rustic Charm of cozy, countryside elements, or the sleek simplicity of a Modern Minimalist approach, your style will shape every detail. Embrace the relaxed vibes of Bohemian Bliss, the nostalgic flair of Vintage Romance, or the lush, outdoor beauty of a Garden Party. For a touch of opulence, consider Glamorous Extravagance, or opt for a Coastal Breeze with beachy elements.

Buy your wedding attire

Whether you’re dreaming of a traditional fairy-tale dress, a modern boho dress, a powerful two piece or a stunning jumpsuit, its time to decide. If you’re opting for a traditional wedding dress, it can take up to a year for a made to order dress to arrive, so make sure you give yourself plenty of time.

Book entertainment

When your guest list is smaller, its important to have some great entertainment options to keep your lovely guest list entertained. Whether its a live band, a musician, a singer, a  DJ or your own Wedding Spotify playlist. It’s time to get the entertainment booked.

Plan the ceremony

Decide on the structure of your wedding ceremony. Modern, religious, traditional or bespoke? You decide. Plus think about any special readings or personal touches you want. This is a great opportunity to get your loved ones involved in the ceremony.

6 Months Before: Focus on the Details

The big pieces are set, now it’s time to start fine-tuning the little details.

Pick out décor

For creative lovers, you’ll love this part. This is the time to let your personality shine. Start creating your Pinterest mood boards, get some inspo, decide your theme and get creating. String lights, floral arrangements, or candles work wonders for intimate weddings. Etsy is great for personalised wedding decor, whereas places like Temu or Amazon are great for the little details.

Order invitations

Go for something that reflects the intimacy of your day. Choose a design that reflects your color palette or wedding theme. Again, Etsy is a great place for unique, bespoke wedding invitation designs.

Plan your menu

What’s your vibe? A formal dinner, cocktail hour, or something unique like a food truck? The great thing about a micro wedding is you have way more scope for food choices, compared to a large wedding. You don’t have to stick to a traditional sit down three course wedding menu. The world is your oyster. If you’re looking for some unique micro wedding food ideas, head to this article by Whimsical Wonderland Weddings

Choose a cake

Or don’t choose a cake! Your wedding, your choice. You could opt for cupcakes, pies, or donuts! Personalize it to your taste!

Book your honeymoon

If you’re planning to take a romantic honeymoon after your wedding, this would be a great time to start thinking about it. Even if it’s a mini-moon or staycation, start planning your getaway. I’d highly recommend you at least take a few days off after your wedding, to decompress. You’ll likely be shattered!

3 Months Before: Finalize the Fun

Arrange transportation

Whether its transport for you or your guests, this is the perfect time to get it sorted. Whether its a vintage car, minibus, vesper or taxi, booking these in advance.

Start your beauty routine

If beauty and skincare are an important factor for your wedding, its time to get the skincare regime started. Whether its at home skincare, a facial, or any other aesthetic treatments, now is the time. As a tip, do not start any new skincare a month before your wedding (you don’t want your skin to react to anything so close to the wedding).

Plan your seating

With fewer guests, this can be casual or assigned, whichever feels right for you! You will have a lot less stress about seating plans with a micro-wedding.
